(LOT #10) 1911 T212 Obak Buck Weaver
Legendary third baseman Buck Weaver on this very rare 1911 T212 Obak issued
card. Buck Weaver played for the San Francisco P.C.L. team prior to his
nine year career with the Chicago White Sox. Weaver was issued on the
following card series during his time with San Francisco: Obak, Zeenut, Pacific
Coast Biscuit, and Bishop. These were the early issues, or first issues of
his cards.
The presented example is outstanding with VG/EX corners and edges. The
centering is near perfect and the card does not have any paper loss. Due to a horizontal and vertical crease, it was downgraded to an SGC 20. The card has fantastic eye appel, and the green and brown background elegantly silhouettes Weaver at bat.
In the 1919 World Series Buck Weaver hit an extraordinary 11 base hits.
However, other members of his Chicago White Sox team were bribed to throw the game. The following
season he batted a .333. When the news of the scandal broke, Weaver did
not admit to his teams wrongdoing, and the result was his being banned from
baseball. Buck Weaver belongs in the baseball Hall of Fame, but isn’t,
because he was smeared by this scandal.
