Top Bread Fred Clarke SGC 10
From a
series of 25 World's Champions of the 1909 Pittsburgh Pirates. Card back
has a checklist of the "World's Champions" team players featured in this series.
This card was included as a premium with Tip-Top Bread distributed by the
Ward-Mackey Company. The back says, "Save 50 labels from TIP-TOP BREAD and
secure this entire series (25 cards) free."
Fred Clarke was a Hall of Fame Major League Baseball player from 1894 to 1915,
and manager from 1897 to 1915. Clarke played for and managed both the Louisville
Colonels and Pittsburgh Pirates. He was a left fielder and left-handed batter.
During the 1909 World's Champions season he was Manager and Captain of the
Pittsburgh Pirates.
Fred Clarke is one of only two HOF'ers from this series next to the Honus Wagner
Tip Top Bread card. There is some creasing on the card, and the back has
some paper loss in each of the corners - remnants of scrapbook removal. A
very appealing Tip-Top Clarke card in nice collectible condition. Great
image.
