(LOT #20) 1887 N284 Buchner Gold Coin
Hoss Radbourn SGC 40
In the
N284 Buchner set, "Old Hoss" Radbourn was issued in two different variations -
Hands at Chest, and Hands Above Waist. This is card number 111, the Hands
at Waist variation, out of a set of 143. This set was produced by D.
Buchner & Company for their chewing tobacco branded Gold Coin. Cards
measured 1-3/4 x 3" and were on a thicker card stock then
other tobacco premiums of the time period.
On the SGC
Population Report there are a total of 9 Buchner Gold Coin Radbourn cards that
they have graded which includes both variations. Out of those 9 there are
only 2 cards that grade higher than an SGC 40. The only item to note on
condition would be some tobacco residue on the right side on the front of the
card. Otherwise this card would have graded higher. The back of the
card is totally clean. A very strong example and one of the highest graded
Radbourn cards in existence ! Elegant pose of Radbourn standing in Boston uniform. Simply put one of the best 19th century card graphics that you could find.
